TV Show Review | Presentation of Savitri is 'fantabulous'; Rated 3.5 Stars

Channel Life OK today is perceived as synonymous with mythological shows. Adding one more to their kitty is their latest offering Savitri. Though it cannot be attributed as belonging to this genre the concept of the new show is definitely based on mythology. The channel has now launched a unique tale of love which faces the ultimate test, death itself and  is interspersed with elements of fantasy and the paranormal. Savitri, which features Ridhi Dogra, Yash Pandit and  Krip Suri as lead characters of the show ,  hit  television screens on 18th February 2013 at 8.30 PM.

How far would you go to be with the one you love? Would you battle with death to keep them with you? Such is the story of Savitri whose tryst of love goes beyond the ordinary. Life OK’s latest offering Savitri,  narrates a fantasy tale unheard of before and it  brings to life a love story with a difference. The  story is loosely based on the infamous saga of Satyavan-Savitri, where a wife strives hard to get her dead husband back to life.

Following the stupendous success of its flagship property Devon ke Dev… Mahadev, Life OK continues its promise of delivering disruptive content. With the introduction of Savitri, the channel has now created a new benchmark in the fiction content category. Intense emotions combined with high end technology and computer graphics, the show proves to be an absolute delight for the Indian TV audience.

Said Ajit Thakur, General Manager, Life OK, “Life OK believes in serving our audiences with a variety of content. Keeping that promise alive, we are introducing Savitri with a hope that the viewers are entertained like never before with a show that will expectantly become a benchmark in story-telling on Indian Television. This show is unlike anything that you would have seen on television so far, be it the concept, the special effects or the scale and we hope that audiences support us in this endeavor as they have in the past.”

Though the opening episode suggests that Savitri is a mythological show it could be considered more of a thriller and one dealing with the spirit world. It is a story of a woman and her immense love for her husband Satya and how that love gives her the strength to face Rahukaal, the ultimate devil incarnate. Rahukaal  takes away the love of Savitri’s life and makes her life a living hell.

The show narrates the love story between Satya  and Savitri as they fall in love and soon start a mysterious journey interspersed with paranormal elements. Life OK’s Savitri is a fantasy mega series that goes back and forth 1,000’s of years and  deals with the subjects of reincarnation, quest for immortality and the ultimate test of love. In the present era, Ridhi plays Savitri while Yash plays her husband Satyabhan and their story is based in Kolkata.

The serial which has been by produced by Flying Turtle Films founded by Shabbir Ahluwalia, Saket Sawnhey and Anil .V. Kumar has left no stone unturned to make it a visual treat. The team of the popular show Mahadev who have  contributed to make this show a great success will no doubt take the meaning of fantasy to the next level and have given their very best to make it worthwhile.

The show which portrays eternal love and romance yet has elements of fantasy in it. It almost resembles a fantasy movie. The efforts put in by the team of Savitri is commendable . The locations are exceptional , the high level computer graphics and the concept is amazing.

With an impressive line-up of actors like Indrani Haldar, Arun Bali, Yash Pandit, Ridhi Dogra, Krip Suri and many more the show promises to be a riveting experience for the audiences.

Savitri deals with the subjects of reincarnation, the quest for immortality and the ultimate test of love in the face of death. The story delves deep into the spirit world and Savitri  is a medium who has taken birth to help troubled souls cross over and thereby attain salvation.

The photography and visual effects are spectacular. High end technology has made the show worth watching leading to high voltage entertainment. Ridhi Dogra and Yash Pandit are impressive in their respective roles and so are the child artistes. Direction and settings are superb. It’s almost like watching a three dimensional film! Especially mention worthy are the special effects portraying Debu who has entered the spirit world and the spirits who haunt the young Savitri. The heart wrenching cries of a mother for her son too stirs up emotions in the viewer.

Also commendable is the fact that  religion has been portrayed in a very broad minded way and the unification and the common thread which binds all  religions has been conveyed very effectively. The story set against the backdrop of the city of  Kolkata and the  beautiful and serene  St John’s Church and  the waters of Ganga depicted in the serial was a pleasant and interesting change for viewers who have been subjected to seeing Mumbai city in most of the serials today.

The overall presentation of Savitri can be termed ‘fantabulous’ with  reincarnation, super natural powers, love and  conspiracy interwoven in the story which makes the show worth watching.
