Virat Kohli slams TOI for spreading fake news

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has strongly criticized a recent report published by the Times of India. The article claimed that Kohli and his wife, Anushka Sharma, had invested a hefty sum of Rs 19.24 crore in purchasing an eight-acre plot of land in Alibaug with the intention of building a farmhouse. Disputing the accuracy of the report, Kohli used his Instagram platform to address the publication and label the news as "fake." He humorously alluded to his childhood habit of reading newspapers, implying that even reliable sources can now propagate false information.

In a social media post, Kohli shared a screenshot of the original news piece and commented, “Even the newspapers I've been reading since childhood have now started publishing fake news." Following the backlash, the Times of India has removed the article and appended an update expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.

This incident has ignited a broader conversation online about the credibility of the Times of India's news reporting, with users on various social media platforms expressing concerns about the publication's authenticity. This isn't the first time Kohli has taken issue with misinformation. In a previous instance, he refuted false reports about his earnings from social media, asserting that while he appreciates what he has received in life, the circulating news regarding his social media income was baseless.
