“Paid content on OTT platforms has given rise to digital piracy amid the pandemic”

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing a shutdown of movie halls and multiplexes across the country, the OTT players have become alternate platforms for new movie releases, and so far, it has been a win-win for the digital industry, production houses and viewers. However, the straight-to-OTT release of films has also led to an increase digital piracy, especially with the advent of new technologies. According to a report by Digital TV Research, the loss of revenue for OTT players on account of piracy in India is expected to hit $3.08 billion by 2022.

Broadcasters come out to challenge Bombay HC order on NTO 2.0

Broadcasters are coming out to challenge Bombay High Court’s order in the case related to TRAI’s the amended tariff order. First the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) filed a petition and now it is learnt from industry sources that Star-Disney India has also filed a petition challenging the order. The sources also told Adgully that more broadcasters are contemplating taking action i this regard and are expected to file their petitions in the coming days. 

NTO 2.0: Kerala HC relief to AIDCF in LCN for perpetuity regulation

Kerala High Court has grated relief to All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF), the apex body of Multi-System Operators (MSOs) in India, in its order wherein it set aside regulation 18 (4) – LCN for perpetuity. However, the High Court upheld the other regulations of TRAI’s NTO (new tariff order) 2.0.
