Weekend Exclusive | Experimenting with new roles: Actor, Amar Upadhya

His real name is Amar Upadhyay but he is identified more by his character’s name, Mihir Virani from the serial 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,' one of the most popular TV serials of Indian television.

Amar is an Indian model, film and television actor who debuted as an TV actor in serial, ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’ and followed it up with numerous TV soaps like, ‘Arzoo, Suhana Safar, Tulsi, Kalash and Mehndi Tere Naam Ki.’ Lured by Bollywood he quit TV for sometime to try his luck in films and worked in movies like '13B' and 'LOC Kargil'. But his real calling is TV he feels and that has been one reason why he has been back on telly.

Amar Upadhyay is currently seen on 'Welcome: Baazi Mehmaan Naawazi Ki', the new show on Life OK. Adgully happened to catch up with him for a brief exclusive interaction.
He is very excited about the show and says, “It’s been a good experience for me and different from melodramatic daily soaps. I am keen to experiment new characters and this show gives me a chance to do it.”

Amar who was last seen in the fifth season of 'Bigg Boss', will showcase his culinary skills with the current show 'Welcome: Baazi Mehmaan Naawazi Ki.' Amar’s ongoing show 'Welcome: Baazi Mehmaan Naawazi Ki' is being aired on Life Ok and features popular celebrities from TV. The show tests their hosting, entertainment and culinary skills. The show is based on similar concept of British show 'Come Dine With Me.

He has been associated with the Star Group since the last 12 years and is happy to work with Life Ok , as the show provides crisp and innovative content.

Amar believes in the fact that, “viewers want change they get bored easily with the same stuff and the choice changes with the generation. When they are ready to experiment, even we should entertain them with different concepts.”

He is also working on other projects and divulged, “I am hosting a show with an upcoming channel Reliance Big Magic; the show would be aired in 6 Indian states and will take some time to reach Maharashtra.”

“The show's concept is similar to Crime Patrol and Savdhan India and I’ve already shot 120 episodes for it. I am confident, it’s going to be No. 1 show for that channel,” added Amar.
On asked whether he wants to switch back to daily soaps, he replied, “I am absolute open to working with daily soaps but don’t want to do typical characters like Mihir because such characters are not growing today and nor the shows featuring such stories and characters are growing much.”
