Weekend Exclusive | Multi - talented, multi - faced: RJ Neelesh Misra

Neelesh Misra, a simple but versatile man who has been associated with each and every aspect of entertainment. From songs to radio shows to being a novelist to being an award winning journalist to bollywood scriptwriter to be in the advertising world and the best one is he even has a band called, ‘NINE’ and last but not the least a photographer too. I guess that’s even more being a multi-faced man.

No doubt he has given amazing works in all the fields he has been but one of his best shows up till now has been, ‘Yaadon Ka Idiot Box’ with Neelesh Misra. I am sure everybody is aware of the Yaad sheher that Neelesh has created with his most popular show, Yaadon ka Idiot box that airs on 92.7 BIG FM every day from 9 pm to 11 pm.

The show has been one of the biggest radio innovations in recent times. He tells a story written by him every day from an imaginary city he has created called “Yaad Sheher” and just makes you remember and cherish the old times and memories you have with may be a smile on your face or may be tears in your eyes.  After a hugely successful Season I which also got 5.5 million page views for the show’s content on Facebook, his second season has also been tracking amazing numbers.

With a cup of coffee and some chips, Adgully spoke to Neelesh Misra to inquisitively know about his shows and life!

Speaking about the idea and thought about the show, he said, “Our country is known for Story-telling. We all have grown up listening stories from our elderly. But as the time passed from children to elderly all became really busy in their respective lives and the old and beautiful tradition of story-telling lost the memory lane.” So Misra wanted to kind-off revive that tradition with his show.

He also feels that today the today the writers or may be the content makers are not really understanding the need of the audience as per their age-groups. He believes that Indian audience has a versatile but quite a different taste with modern touch to emotional heart.

Having said that we all know that the audience gets bored very fast so telling us about how with every episode Misra tries to interestingly stick the audience with his show, Misra said, “With every episode I try to create a connect the audience with some of the neglected universal memories they might have and my aim is to create a serious literature.”

He also told us that during the first season he himself wrote and narrated all the stories but with changing time and audience and demand of course, Misra has hired a team of writers which they call Monday Mandli and interestingly none of them is a professional writer. He said, “I felt a need to have Moday Mandali (his team of writers) because at times it used to become difficult to write all the stories and it is a fact that these stories that I share on the show are really different from those conservative stories. I mentor the entire team giving them a chance to think and write stories.”

In any field or space the most important challenge lies in entertaining the audience and creating connect with them so as enabling them to hear or watch what the content makers want to say. Telling us some the challenges he faced during the show, Misra said, “The biggest challenge is to excite the audience with every story and not to give any resistive story.” Also since the show airs in more than 30 cities in India Misra believes catering to such different genres and demands of audience ranging from their thoughts, beliefs, customs etc is also a big challenge.

When asked about what he thinks is his best works so far, he told us that stories like Almaari, Cheh phere, Nani ki car and Dhoop ka kona are some stories that touch his heart and are infact very close to him. Also apart from this he really likes his campaign he did for Samajwadi party and love all his songs.
