Weekend Exclusive | Shaping Young Talent: LVDS announces new dance prog.

Lourd Vijay’s Dance Studio (LVDS), along with Indian Society for Performers & Teachers of Dance (ISPTD) plan to revive the art of dance with their new Professional Dance Development Certificate Program (PDCP).

Dance in the recent times has lost its importance due to a lack of qualified standard training programs in the country coupled with the uncertainty about career options post-training. Professional Dance Development Certificate Program aims at eliminating these obstacles as it looks forward to moulding dancers on par with international levels.

The program has been designed by experts in the field like Program Director Nakula Somana and Lourd Vijay of LVDS, who have compiled their expertise and experience to give the course a unique structure. The program stresses on various disciplines of dance and movement arts. It aims to develop thinking, creative and versatile dancers who will have a good command over both western as well as Indian forms.

The PDDCP courses have been structured with a view to creating versatile dancers, performers and most importantly trained instructors. The courses lasting from 3 to 12 months are comprehensive and will give the students an exposure to various art forms that will enhance their creativity.

Mainly developed for school & College Students, the certificate program will not only equip the students to specialize in their chosen field of dance, but also imbibe in them professional dancing techniques.

Lourd Vijay, Founder & Artistic Director - LVDS said, ““PDDCP offers students the opportunity to be mentored by the best names in the industry. Students have 6 months of intensive dance training where they learn all forms of dance and 6 months with their mentors, specializing in their chosen field.”

He added that there are ample career opportunities in the field of dance, art and entertainment for dedicated dancers. “With a great demand for professional dancers for movies, TV shows, events, etc and a demand for qualified dance instructors, the opportunities are limitless. LVDS also intends to absorb dancers from the program for internal placements,” said Vijay.

LVDS is also sponsoring scholarships for 10 underprivileged children, offering them a chance to learn various styles of dance like Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz and more. Shedding light on the initiative, Lourd Vijay said, “The course is planned for a 30 student intake out of which 10 children from socio economically weaker sections will get a 100% scholarship. The objective is to provide everyone equal opportunity for all.”

The program will commence from 3rd September 2012 and the application process has begun.

Commenting on the evolution of dance as an art form, Vijay said, “People are increasingly thinking of taking up dance as a profession. Parents are encouraging kids to take up dance more seriously. Though still nascent, it has gained due respect in society as a recognised career option.” | By Aditi Popat [aditi(at)adgully.com]
