Weekend Exclusive | VJ Bani: Unplugged and unleashed!

Adgully caught up with the vivacious, bold and ubercool video jockey Bani aka Gurbani Judge, as she shares interesting insights about her journey into a profession that is considered cool and trendy today.

Bani believes that the highest point of her career has been getting a job with MTV and sustaining it over a period of time. She has been working with MTV for over more than three years now.

She said, “I am doing a lot of work that I enjoy doing which includes meeting a lot of interesting directors, producers, photographers, designers and work with them. It’s an extremely creative process.”

“The most exciting part about my job is that it gives me enough freedom to do what I actually enjoy,”   exclaims Bani, who is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology.

Talking about the transition from being a contestant on Roadies to working as a VJ for the channel, she says, “The ride has been really non-stop. Something or the other keeps happening. I never expected to be a VJ. I had never even considered being a part of the media industry. It happened all of a sudden. After Roadies, I got a movie offer. Later, a couple of modeling assignments came my way. And then I ended up getting a job with MTV.”

VJ Bani had planned to study art at the California College of Arts before she ended up being a video jockey. Originally from Chandigarh, she shifted to Mumbai- the city of dreams five years back. “ I have close friends in Mumbai who are there for me at any time. In a city like Mumbai, where you are an outsider; it is good to know that there are people around who you can rely on. But, Chandigarh is my home- the place where I was born and where my family lives, ” she asserts strongly.

Some of her future projects involve a series of photo shoots and she is also extremely excited about doing the city tours for MTV Footgear by Mochi for Roadies. Also, there are a lot of on-ground events on the cards.

Bani, who has been an extremely popular face of the entertainment industry states, “People want to be famous today. Do what you want to do. Most importantly, do what makes you happy; just make sure you have some support, considering the industry is not an easy one to be in.”

Some of her favourite television shows are Breaking Bad and Spartacus.

Talking about Roadies, she said, “ MTV Roadies is the longest running adventure reality show in India and that too successfully. The fact that it has gone international and it has been able to garner really good responses even in the ninth year is commendable. There have been a number of changes. It has evolved constantly. Every year has something different in store for the viewers. Also, there are a lot of good contestants every year. It is hard to find them because the volumes of people who come are increasing. They are always there and that is what keeps the show going.”

Bani feels that the best part about being a video jockey is that she can be herself 24*7.

Expressing her views on youth being a part of a larger social change, Bani says, “It is all upto us. We need to get together and step forward. We can’t just tweet about things. We need to go out, protest, get noticed, start a revolution and make things happen.” | By Aditi Popat [aditi(at)adgully.com]
