WhatsApp reassures users on privacy by expanding status messaging

After facing massive backlash over the new upcoming privacy policy, WhatsApp was using the Status feature to assure users in India for some time now, however now the "commitment to you le privacy" messaging has expanded to users in US and UK as well.

Users in US and UK could see the messaging appearing from Saturday on WhatsApp stories. According to media reports, the messages read "One thing that isn`t new is our commitment to your privacy," along with a reminder that "WhatsApp can`t read or listen to your personal conversations as they`re end-to-end encrypted".

Earlier in the months, WhatsApp moved back the date on which users will be asked to review and accept terms. The date was moved from February 8 to May 15.

Meanwhile, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an interim stay on the operation of the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, the application with more than 400 million users in the country.
