Why Rajeev Khandelwal almost said no to Karan Johar for ‘Showtime’

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal is teaming up with Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment for the first time for a web series – ‘Showtime’. Incidentally, the actor is playing a superstar in this series, which narrates some unheard of stories of the entertainment world. The show is inspired by two events, as claimed by directors Mihir Desai, Archit Kumar and creator Sumit Roy.

Rajeev Khandelwal had made his debut on television nearly two decades ago and then moved on to feature in some critically acclaimed films. Since the show is based on the entertainment business, when asked about what kind of changes he has seen in the field over the years, Khandelwal says, “There are a lot of changes that one can see. The lines between different mediums have blurred. There was a time when people used to have this whole mindset that certain actors will not work on the big screen. I am only talking from an actor’s perspective, but that has changed now. Now, there is no such thing where you will find actors across different mediums.”

The actor further explains his point of view and says, “This is a big change that we are witnessing right now. I think I am still evolving as an actor even though I have been around for 18-19 years in this industry. I am still learning and evolving.”

Speaking on his character and the new show, Khandelwal says, “This was one show, which I had said no to this one initially. I thought about it a lot. It is because it is not what I have done in my career, though you always want to work with Dharma and Karan. But still there was something I could not agree to. However, then the actor in me said, it is just a character that I am going to play. I do not relate to it, so I thought if I will do this role then I could achieve something. It would be like a personal victory for me. Now I am glad I took the right call, chose to do this role.”

Rajeev Khandelwal was last seen essaying a negative character in Ali Abbas Zafar’s ‘Bloody Daddy’, with Shahid Kapoor and Diana Penty.
