With science at its heart, how Neutrogena is simplifying skincare

Beauty brand Neutrogena recently expanded its product bouquet with the launch of its Bright Boost range to meet the unique skin brightening needs of the consumers.

Their skin is an expression of their individuality and a source of their confidence and they believe in investing in their appearance,” explained Manoj Gadgil, Vice President – Marketing, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health, India, in this interaction with Adgully. Excerpts:

How is Neutrogena Bright Boost different from other skincare products?

As a brand, we have always strived to help every woman achieve her best self through her best skin ever. Therefore, for our new Bright Boost range, we brought together our most talented scientists for a first-ever global collaboration to create a skin-brightening line that would meet the diverse skin needs of all skin tones and effectively address skin dullness and pigmentation to deliver real, visible, quick results. This is how our revolutionary Bright Boost range was born. 

For the first time, Neutrogena has formulated a range to meet the unique skin brightening needs of Indian women. This customised formulation is powered by the revolutionary ingredient, Neoglucosamine, which has been developed in-house, unique to Neutrogena. 

The three key products in the new range are Resurfacing Micro Polish, Illuminating Serum, and Gel Cream, which work by boosting the surface skin cell turnover by 10 times, helping women achieve smoother, brighter, and more even skin tone in just 1 week.

We believe that this new product range will not only be a game-changer, but also further strengthen our position in the skincare category in India. 

What are the growth prospects in the skincare industry in India and how does Neutrogena plan to tap into the opportunity?

Their skin is an expression of their individuality and a source of their confidence and they believe in investing in their appearance. For them, healthy skin is beautiful skin - a philosophy that is at the heart of Neutrogena. Just like our consumers, as a brand, we are not afraid to experiment. We continue to question the status quo, innovate, and rethink what is possible in skincare. Our products are scientifically crafted in labs, perfected by experts, and proven to be effective on your skin, thus commanding the trust of consumers, for the promise of quality and transparency we offer.

With skincare topping the wellness agenda of most women coupled with the rise in awareness, willingness to experiment, and ease of access to products across channels, the industry has enormous growth potential, and we intend to be at the forefront of it by constantly working to develop technologies that are inspired by true consumer insights and unmet consumer needs.

How does Neutrogena plan to approach the customers who are conscious about using chemicals on the skin?

Our ingredients are screened for quality, manufacturing process, government regulations, published research, and our own ingredient safety databases. We also seek the advice of healthcare providers, safety professionals, and third-party experts on a regular basis to help ensure the safety of our products.

What we put in our products is just as important as what we leave out. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, we strive to eliminate unnecessary ingredients, and we prioritise ingredients that are not only safe for one’s skin, but also safe for the planet. We are committed to ingredient transparency so one can make informed decisions for their skin health.

What are the growth expectations of Neutrogena in the coming years?

We are on a mission to advance skin health for all our consumers in India and are naturally poised for positive future growth and an ever-increasing number of satisfied customers. 

What are the challenges in the Indian skincare industry?

Today’s consumers are growing in awareness and with this fast-paced development in the industry, there is an appetite for more products and information. Needless to say, this has also led to an explosion of offerings, products, and experts. However, the challenge for the consumers today is two-fold – to figure out products that actually work for them and also identify the information sources that are trustworthy.

Hence, the need of the hour is science-based products as well as information hubs that are rooted in true skincare understanding and expertise. To support our consumers with this, we are constantly working to bridge the knowledge gap, simplify skincare and regimens, and provide science-based solutions. We want to make sure that our consumers feel empowered while making their choices.

What is the brand vision that Neutrogena believes in and how does it aim to maintain that?

Our vision is to help each, and every woman put her best face forward so that every time she looks in the mirror, she believes anything is possible. That’s why we continue to create products that push the possibilities of skincare and we, at Neutrogena, are proud of the fact that this has driven us to create many firsts in the world of skin health. We made the first powerful acne cleanser that was efficacious and yet didn’t smell like medicine and were the first to stabilize retinol, the most effective ingredient to counter wrinkles. We were also the first to stabilize UVA/UVB protection with Helioplex for a superior broad-spectrum sunscreen. In addition, we launched moisturisers that deliver superior hydration with a weightless feel. By making products that do what they say, uncomplicate skincare, and deliver real results, we have earned the trust of millions of consumers around the world.
