Actor-director Raghav Kansal: I take my father as an inspiration

Most of us are usually inspired by someone or the other while following a certain professional path. Actor Raghav Kansal, who also directed the mini web show for Instagram, ‘A Day In Our Lives’, too had found his role model in his father

“I take my father as an inspiration though he is not in the similar field. His journey has really taught me that if you want to become something you just have to have that faith and trust in your process and you can become anything out there,” he continues, “I think for the personal growth one needs to have a mentor or someone who guide them as many times in our lives we get stuck somewhere and don’t realise that we are looking at the situation from merely one prospect, that time we do need an outer perspective to understand and analyse the situation or the problem better.”

On whether he thinks there should be a benchmark for his performance, he answers in negative. “I don’t think that there should be any benchmarks in my acting career as I find it difficult for anyone to attain perfection in this field. Constant growth and better understanding of things are required at all stages in this profession.”

Actors at times use glycerin or a personal moment in the past to evoke real emotion on screen to perform dramatic scenes. “For me, it depends on the intensity of the scenes and sometimes your mood as it directly affects your emotions in the scene. And, I’ve also learned to recall or create a painful memory as it really helps but sometimes even glycerin is not a bad option,” he adds.

There is another side to this. While performing various scenes on screen is a part of the job, what many tend to forget is that actors are human beings too and therefore they also go through personal issues and must be given space and time to deal with it.

“Yes it is very natural to go through emotional disturbances. It might also result out of one’s career in performing arts as we are playing different roles and every character has a journey that travels through various emotions. Acting is a very personal process and you tend to jump or use the emotional energy more than anyone in any field, that's what I believe,” he explains.
