Adgully Exclusive | It was a difficult decision: Rohit Ohri

On 8th of June 2011, the Dentsu India Group announced the appointment of Rohit Ohri as Executive Chairman, Dentsu India Group. The announcement came as shock to the advertising fraternity as Ohri's association with JWT was for over two decades.

Since his joining in April 1990, in JWT Kolkata, Ohri played an integral role in JWT Delhi to become one of the largest JWT offices in the network today. During his career with JWT, Ohri stewarded many client relationships on some of the largest brands in India.

Adgully caught up with the man as he speaks to us about his rewarding journey so far and refreshing journey waiting to begin.

Talking about the decision to move on from JWT, Ohri says, "It was a very hard decision to make because I have been and grown in JWT. It was a difficult decision but I wanted to take on a new challenge."

For Dentsu India too it has seen quite a few changes starting this year. Early in February Tatsuyoshi Takashima, President & CEO, Dentsu Inc, announced that it had purchased the respective 26% equity stakes held by Mogae Consultants Pvt. Ltd. (President: Sandeep Goyal; Office: Mumbai, India; hereinafter "Mogae") in Dentsu Communications Pvt. Ltd., Dentsu Marcom Pvt. Ltd. and Dentsu Creative Impact Pvt. Ltd., three full-service advertising agencies established as joint ventures between Dentsu and Mogae.

As part of a strategy to grow the Dentsu brand in India, the three companies, together with other companies under the Dentsu Communications umbrella that includes Dentsu Mediatech and Clickstreamers, were integrated into an organization referred to as the Dentsu India Group.

Ohri says, "At Dentsu the big part is going to be to build an advertising agency that is respected and regarded for its great work. I will also look at building Dentsu's proposition in the Indian market and also instil the agency's belief in the sphere of communication. "

So how difficult is it going to be to re-learn a new organisation's culture?

Ohri says, "In any case, understanding any new organisation and its culture is something that requires a step by step approach. I am keeping an open mind as I am going to go to Dentsu. Gradually then I will understand the way things work there. I am not going to go there with a plan to change certain things."

While signing off as a message to his team at JWT, Ohri says, "I had a fantastic team at JWT, I have built the core team and I still feel a lot for the team. I really miss them. But I am also very happy because I am leaving JWT when it's on such a great pedestal. I have full confidence in the team at JWT and I am sure they will keep up the good work." | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
