Adgully Exclusive | The right ways of TLC's Ian Wright

He has got his sense of humour right and he is the only one who can handle the irony in the phrase-reasonable travelling'. No extravagant hotels, no high end spa treatments, no royal invitations, but just locals, busy streets and everything that counts for simple living in a new place. Presenting to you the man with a small travel expense, small just as his height, this is none other than Ian Wright.

Wright, is the well-known travel host with a large appetite for good experience, great humour and some memories that act as lifelong souvenirs. He is one of the very famous faces in the series Globe Trekker, and has had travelled quite literally across the globe.

From trying to change money on the black market to eventually getting beaten up, ask Wright and he will narrate all the juicy details with his zestful expressions and with a discontinuous flow of talks. Adgully caught up with the man and he opened up his bag of travel journeys and travel memoirs.

According to Wright it is very important to be a kid while traveling because it helps people from probably a very different culture or background to sensitise with the differences and accept you.

About being funny all the time, he quickly adds that, "You can't be like that all the time. After a point of time people will start hating you for kidding around all the time. Sometimes I just like sitting alone and there are times when I am quiet, thinking to myself. However it is very annoying when people see me quiet and ask me if I am alright."

When he did the series "Invite Mr.Wright' and when he met rich and at the same time very passionate people across the globe, he did feel a bit out of place. He says that when someone knows that they are placed out of their comfort zones then it is a little difficult to carry on. "Probably I don't understand the language, probably I don't get the etiquettes," he adds.

Ask him about the vivid memories he has about interacting with a local, and he talks of an atomic bomb victim in Japan who was a nurse, who saw her world being destroyed in a matter of seconds. He further adds that, he remembers one more guy he met in Mongolia, who had four educational degrees, could speak five languages but was working in a dilapidated garage. "When you meet people like this man I met in Mongolia, I feel fortunate to have been born somewhere else," Wright says.

Wright also remembers the time when he had narrowly escaped a volcano. It was in Vanuata where the volcano would erupt every 10 minutes and the crew had nearly killed themselves. "I regret not getting a burn mark on my arm so that I could show it off now," he jokes.

While Wright enjoys painting and he sketches when he is out traveling, he also has had a liking for music. When asked if he has had any idol who he looks upto, he says, "For me a single mother in an underdeveloped region of this world taking care of her children and bringing them up fighting all odds is an idol. A worker who goes for work in an environment which is dangerous for life, and goes back to work everyday not being scared about risking his life but goes to earn an extra penny, is an idol for me."

He looks like a happy go lucky person with a rare touch of witty replies on the outside, but there is an extremely insightful mind and an emotional consciousness inside. Seventeen years down and still nobody to replace his vivacious personality and interesting "travel eyes", "Wright has certainly got it Right'. He says the last destination of his life will be "six feet under" and that is when he will be dead. Amen to that!
