Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Review: Action-packed, but Lacking Depth

Neither a remake nor sequel to the original Amitabh- Govinda double role comedy, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is a total mismatch of a title to this espionage actioner, which has its inspirations ranging from James Bond in Hollywood to War (2019) and Pathaan (2023) back home.

A 'desi' defence software weapon is stolen by a masked dude, who is an ex-army vendor turned terrorist. Two braveheart soldiers Bade and Chote Miyan, named after a certain fully faltoo mission in supposed Afghanistan but looking like Goregaon's Filmcity, are his nemesis. To add to the glamour quotient, there is a female RAW agent, who flies down to Shanghai (resembling a cheapo set erected in YRF studio) to meet a Hindi compatible Chinese spy. He is killed mid-way of his gourmet soup looking like a 'pheeki' dal. Ooff!!

Relying solely on its action set pieces, BMCM is a silly movie, where even the heavy 'deshbhakti' dialogues appear fake. Assuredly, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff shine in the fight sequences but their overall camaraderie is quite 'thanda'.

The concept of cloning sounds interesting but not explored optimally. The screenplay and dialogues belong to the '90s. The climactic 'Save Bharatmata' button is dependent on a password set by the villain and for a while, I thought it would be Akshay's all too favourite "EVERYTHING IS PLANNED" in caps. The film belongs to that era!!!

Alaya F plays an unconvincing tech savvy scientist, who plans a mega heist with Bade and Chote in a vault situated at the bottom of an underground metro station. After some heavy duty action claiming a few thousands and heap of debris, our masked villain enters the same vault easily by blowing up an underground car park!! This is the level of writing....

Anything I liked in BMCM, you may ask?!! Well, I actually loved Manushi Chhillar as the RAW agent kicking the dushman's ass. The former Miss World displays her acting prowess and is a welcome change from the usual Deepikas of yore.

The best part of BMCM is of course, Prithviraj Sukumaran, playing the masked antagonist so very effectively. You just wish he had read the script properly before signing on the dotted line!!
