BARC Wk 27: Star Plus tops Pay; Dangal TV, DD channels reign in FTA in U+R

The TV viewership ratings landscape has changed from Week 27 (Saturday, June 22 to Friday, June 28) of 2019, with BARC India reporting the viewership data for Pay channels and FTA channels separately. The Pay and Free platform viewership for Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals] throw up some very disparate data. 

Pay Viewership 

Star Plus tops the charts as far as Pay platforms are concerned. The channel has garnered gross viewership of 662,073. In Week 26, the channel was placed in the third spot as per the combined viewership, garnering a gross viewership of 668,735. 

Zee TV remained unchanged at No. 2 in Week 27. On Pay platform, the channel has garnered a gross viewership of 634,160. Zee TV recorded a gross viewership of 673,270 as per the undivided data. 

Sony SAB, which recently underwent a brand refresh, fared better on Pay platform and was placed in the third spot, garnering a gross viewership of 508,796. In Week 26, the channel was placed at No. 6 and had seen a decline in its gross viewership to 513,380, as per undivided data. 

Colors was at No. 4 in Week 27 on Pay platform, garnering a gross viewership of 508,436. This was a huge gain for the channel, which was placed in the seventh spot last week, witnessing a further decline in its gross viewership to 482,406, as per undivided data.

Sony Entertainment Television followed in the fifth position as the channel garnered a gross viewership of 477,895 on Pay platform. Thus, there was no change in the position of the channel. In Week 26, Sony had garnered a gross viewership of 513,978, as per undivided data. 

Star Bharat was placed at No. 6 in Week 27 and garnered a gross viewership of 323,203 on Pay platform. The channel was placed in the eighth position last week and had recorded a gross viewership of 321,570, as per undivided data. 

Dangal TV didn’t fare as well on Pay platforms as it has done on Free platforms. The channel was placed at the seventh spot on Pay platform with a gross viewership of 183,569 in Week 27. In Week 26, the channel had garnered a gross viewership of 799,316, which comprised data from both Free and Pay platforms. 

Placed at No. 8 on Pay platform, Sony Pal garnered a gross viewership of 144,740 in Week 27. The channel was a notch lower at No. 9 last week and had recorded a gross viewership of 181,095. 

Star Utsav was placed in the ninth spot this week, garnering a gross viewership of 137,411 on Pay Platform. The channel was placed in the tenth spot last week and had recorded a gross viewership of 138,894, as per undivided data. 

&TV came in at No. 10 in Week 27, recording a gross viewership of 123428 on Pay platform. 

FTA Viewership 

The scenario is a totally different one on Free platform, which is dominated by Doordarshan channels. BARC India has presented the viewership data for the Top 8 Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban on Free platform. 

In the combined data landscape, Dangal TV has been the No. 1 Hindi GEC in Rural+Urban since Week 13 of 2019. However, with the separation of data, the scenario has changed somewhat, even though Dangal TV continued to be the No. 1 channel on Free platform, garnering a gross viewership of 538,437. 

Big Magic is placed at No. 2 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 391,850 on Free platform. The channel was placed in the fourth position in Week 26 and had recorded a gross viewership of 535,184, as per undivided data. 

The remaining 6 channels in the list are comprised of Doordarshan channels. DD National is placed at No. 3 and has garnered a gross viewership of 45,019. It if followed by DD Bharati (4,994), DD Arunprabha (3,817), DD Uttar Pradesh (2,404), DD Rajasthan (2,010), and DD Madhya Pradesh (1,926).
