Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)

This two-part Indian crime film directed by Anurag Kashyap, is centered on the coal mafia of Dhanbad where a clash between Sultan and Shahid Khan leads to the expulsion of Khan from Wasseypur, and ignites a deadly blood feud spanning three generations. The story is spread across the time period 1941 to 2009. While both parts of the film were originally shot as a single 5hr 35minute film, they had to be released in two parts as most Indian theatres were unwilling to screen a film of this length. Black Friday (2004)

Written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, this crime film is based on a book by Hussain Zaidi entitled, Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts. The film documents investigations following the 1993 Bombay serial bomb blasts, and is told through the lens of different people involved – the Mumbai police, conspirators, victims and middlemen. Ugly (2013)

This dark thriller – written, co-produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap – was shot without giving any of the lead actors a script, as Kashyap felt the film ‘required’ that. Inspired by real-life killer Raman Raghav, the plot revolves around Ramanna, a maniac murderer, who finds his soulmate in Raghavan, a corrupt policeman inspecting his murder cases.
