Centenary Birth Anniversary of Dev Anand celebrated by the Film Industry

The name ‘Dev Anand’ does not need any introduction. He, in himself, is a whole institution of Cinema, who will always be remembered as an Evergreen actor. He has left behind his legacy of evergreen films like CID, Jewel Thief, Tere Ghar ke Samne and Johnny Mera Naam to name a few.
The late actor-producer-director, Dev Anand, would have been celebrating his centenary birthday on 26 September, with a lot of pomp and show, if only he would have been alive. However, his film family could not miss remembering him, near his birthday.
To celebrate Dev Anand’s 100th birthday, the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) curated a film festival for his fans titled “Dev Anand@100 - Forever Young” which brought the superstar’s iconic films back to the big screen. The two-day film festival was held on Sept 23 and 24 in 30 cities across the nation. Moreover, most of the shows were sold out- House full! This shows the magic of the forever young and dynamic, Dev Anand!
Moviegoers across the country got an opportunity to watch Dev Anand’s classics like C.I.D.(1956), Jewel Thief (1967), Guide (1965) and Johny Mera Naam(1970). These films were selected by the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) in collaboration with the NFDC (National Film Development Corporation of India) and NFAI (National Film Archive of India) which restored these films.
Dev Anand’s Guide was listed at number 4 by TIME magazine on its list of “Best Bollywood Classics”. His film CID, produced by his close friend and colleague Guru Dutt, is still considered one of the best thrillers of Indian cinema. Tere Ghar Ke Samne, a romantic comedy, is still watched by youngsters with great enthusiasm.
Amitabh Bachchan tweeted on Dev Anand ahead of his 100th Anniversary: “T 4777 – After seeing the success of Film Heritage Foundation’s retrospective “Dilip Kumar – Hero of Heroes” on the occasion of his birth centenary last year, I am delighted that four iconic Dev Anand films will be opening in cinemas across the country today in a manner that befits a legend of Indian cinema. He signified something that was endless, a continuity which we all took as a given. The fact that we can watch these films almost 70 years after the first one was released, is because they have been preserved and restored. This only reaffirms the importance of saving our films for future generations to enjoy. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch Dev Anand back on the big screen this weekend. ”
