Disney in Talks with Reliance and Others for India Streaming and TV Business

The Walt Disney Company has reportedly engaged in discussions with various potential buyers, including India's Reliance Industries (RIL), concerning its streaming and television business in India. Reports indicate that the American entertainment conglomerate is exploring a range of deals, from a complete sale of its Disney Star business to partial transactions involving assets like sports rights and the Disney+ HotStar streaming service.

Disney has been evaluating its options following the loss of broadcasting rights for the IPL tournament to Viacom18 Media on its Indian streaming platform. As part of its considerations, Disney has approached Reliance to discuss the possibility of purchasing a stake in the business. However, as of now, these talks have not led to a finalized agreement, and Disney may choose to retain its assets for an extended period.
