Doordarshan to live telecast the ceremony of Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi

Every year on January 30th, the nation pays homage to the martyrs who suffered and  died for the freedom, welfare, and progress of the country. It was on this very day in 1948, that Mahatma Gandhi was  assassinated a little before the sunset when he was on his way to attend his evening prayers. Since then on Martyr’s Day  the top officials of the country gather at the samadhi at Rag Ghat memorial and lay wreaths decorated with multi-colour  flowers.

Doordarshan, the public broadcaster of India, through its national channels, namely, DD National, DD Bharati, DD         Kisan and DD India has scheduled to live telecast the 68th anniversary of Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 2016 at Tees January Marg. ‘Sarva Dharma Prarthna Sabha’, a program on Gandhiji’s Martyrdom Day will be live telecast on DD National, DD Bharati, DD Kisan and DD India from 03.30 p.m. to 05.30 p.m. (or till the end) on 30 January’16, Saturday.

Post the live telecast, on 30th January, DD Bharati channel will air a biography on Mahatma Gandhi, titled ‘Mahatma- The Great Soul’ in evening. The biography will take the viewer to the time Gandhi ji spent in South Africa and subsequently his return to India as the Mahatma. The one hour biography is a gripping work highlighting how India became independent and viewers would also get to hear the actual voice of Mahatma Gandhi during the telecast.
