It’s time to bring back the fun, the entertainment and the humour into dancing, as Sony Entertainment Television is all set to create a fresh legacy of dance, with the return of India’s original dance show, Boogie Woogie. The show that had cast a spell on viewers across the country, is back to sweep you off your feet!

One of the most awaited and original dance show that returns to our television screens this time around presents the Boogie Woogie Kids Championship. Produced by R&N TV Productions, the show that gained popularity 17 years ago is here once again with the same judges, Javed Jaffrey, Naved Jaffrey and Ravi Behl with their aim of escalating passion for dance in the country.

Audiences will notice the new packaging which brings freshness to the show. While earlier there were no hosts associated with this show for the first time in the history of Boogi Woogie, vivacious actor Sargun Mehta and 12-year-old Rakshit Wahi of Parvarrish fame have been roped in as anchors which will add a fresh layer of spunk and zest to the popular dance reality show.

Sharing his views on today’s generation and how Boogie Woogie will make a world of difference to their lifestyles Gaurav Seth, Senior VP and Head of Marketing, SET said, “We have a set of young population today growing in era of television, and we have seen kids growing up with this evolution. Today it is seen that hobbies are considered as professions and parents are nurturing their kid’s passion. We are setting platforms for them to give them an opportunity and Boogie Woogie was the first one to start this trend 17 years back.”

According to Javed Jaffery, “The concept actually got established because of Naved Jaffery and later Ravi Behl and I became a part of it. The reason also being that all three of us love to dance and we always wanted to do something which we admired the most. Today as we are back we just want to promote talent and yes rating does matter to us as it matters to other shows. We know that the audience who loved and watched our show earlier will continue to do the same even now.”

“Today though there are celebrity focused dance shows on television, our USP has always been and still is to reach out to the common people and provide them the platform where they can show their talent. For us our dancers are our stars,” said Ravi Behl.

“This slot of kid’s championship is going to be the best slot so far.  It’s been 17 years and today everything has changed, from the dance forms like classical and Bollywood to hip hop, jazz, krumping and others. The passion for dancing amongst kids has risen rapidly. We have a bigger set, bigger budget and more importantly a lot of massive talent this time,” added Naved Jaffery.

Three celebrated judges, two entertaining hosts and 16 dancing sensations will step on the dance floor, with only one mission - to provide the best entertainment to the entire country for the next 16 weeks. The show travelled to 10 cities and auditioned around 1 lakh children, of which 1000 kids were short-listed in the beginning.  Later 100 were finalised, out of which 16 have been selected for the show. Selected from all corners of the country and after auditioning approximately 100 participants, this season’s participants will feature kids between the ages of 7 –13, who will showcase natural, trained and  innate talent and their unique prowess that will leave you spellbound. Their fun, masti and magic on the floor will liven up your spirits and put a smile on your face.

Speaking about the upcoming show, Sneha Rajani, Senior EVP and Business Head, SET said, “We are delighted to present Boogie Woogie Kids Championship which will be launched at the 8.30-10 PM weekend slot. The show that has been the genesis for all dance reality shows in India is back with a fresh format. This season promises to be bigger and better as we present an eclectic mix of 16 electrifying dancers whose sole aim will be entertaining our viewers with their outstanding performances. We assure you a season of wholesome fun and entertainment.”

The new season of the dance show will replace Kaun Banega Crorepati 7 and will redefine viewer’s  weekends as some of the most talented young dancers from across the country will be seen competing  for the title of Boogie Woogie Kids Champion.

On the format and packaging of the show, Aloka Guha, VP & Head – Non-fiction Programming, SET, said, “There would be no public voting as contestants will be judged by judges. We decided to do this just to ensure that the judgment should be fair and let the best talent move ahead. We all know that the trio Javed, Naved and Ravi are best buddies and they share good bond which reflects in the show. They never let each other down and there is positive and joyful atmosphere on the set.  They are serious about dancing and that is what made Boogie Woogie to retain the same value and recall.”

“We have shot four promos for the show on songs like Ilu Ilu, Lungi Dance, Na na na na na re and the original track of Boogie Woogie. We are going to have one winner at the end of this season,” shared Guha.

This time round, nearly double the amount of money has been spent on producing the show. The show this season will have a bigger and glitzier set for the dancing stars of tomorrow to showcase their prowess. Scoring and elimination will be basis the judges scores (no public voting) and for the very first time judges scores will be shown to the public. The winner stands to win prize money of Rs.10 lakhs and the coveted Boogie Woogie Kids Champion trophy.

Currently, Horlicks has come on board as the ‘powered by’ sponsor whereas other deals are in the process of being finalized.  Clarity about the final sponsors would be confirmed soon.

Further on asking about competition and how the channel is planning to market the show, Seth explained that the show has its own legacy and is associated with pure dance. It’s a successful format which worked over a period of time. “We’ve already made music videos and commercial with kids and judges. The brand Boogie Woogie is strong and we are using the trademark of the brand as people have recall value for the show. We are going to do loads of digital media, flash mobs, and dance workshops in malls across the country. We will also be using radio, television, outdoor and print. On digital front will be creating dance apps to help people connect with the contestants. There will be a way to dance out and record and send the dance moves.”

Powered by Horlicks, the show that promises to provide complete family entertainment premieres on 7th December, 2013 every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 pm only on Sony Entertainment Television!
