Growth of gaming industry in India

Pranav Panpalia remarked, “Gaming, once seen as a pastime activity, has now evolved to be one of the most prominent cultures in the country and world. Gamers, esports players, and gaming content creators have seized to create a unique value position in the conventional market of careers.”

“Internationally, gaming boomed over the last few years, whereas India saw a quick growth only after the 2020 lockdown. In normal conditions, it otherwise would have taken at least 3-5 years for the Indian gaming market to reach where we are today,” he added.

Expressing his confidence in the steep growth of the gaming industry in India, Kuldeep Lather said that the growth has been “truly amazing and unbelievable”. He added, “We are growing at such a fast pace that we can catch up to the world in a few years.”

Rahul Bhatia had one world to describe the growth of the gaming industry, “phenomenal”. He noted, “In 2020, India was No. 1 in mobile game downloads, clocking 7.3 billion installs. Card games, war games, fantasy sports witnessed multi-fold growth. Since more than 60% of gamers in India are under 25 years of age, the gaming growth map looks promising.”

According to Anurag Khurana, the growth of the gaming industry in India has been “unprecedented, but not unexpected and it is poised to grow even more”. “The recent surge in smartphone availability, affordable data and emergence of local payment methods have provided an impetus to the current growth,” he pointed out.

India leads charts globally in terms of mobile game downloads on the Play Store and is being seen as a massive consumer market, the experts said.
