Injunction sought against Google Play Store policy by WinZo

Google has announced its decision to run a pilot project permitting Daily fantasy games and rummy apps on Play Store. An injunction has been sought by WinZo, the regional-language social gaming platform, against the decision announced by Google to allow daily fantasy sports (DFS) and rummy as part of the pilot project on the Play Store.

The regulation excludes a major number of real-money games classified as games of skill. An entry fee is charged by real money games from the players, unlike in the case of casual games depending primarily on advertising revenue. A restraint has been sought by WinZo from Google because of the arbitrary classification impacting the reputation of the WinZo’s business, according to the lawsuit filed in the Delhi High Court.

Google Play Store ranks as the largest app distribution platform in the world, with a market share of 97% in India. According to many industry experts, there should be an inclusive policy for all the other games. Marketing and customer acquisition costs will also increase according to some.
