IT Act to be replaced by Digital India Act for safe internet

India is replacing the IT Act with Digital India Act, comprising modern frameworks of laws and regulations. The new rules and regulations will act as a catalyst to make the internet safe for users.
According to the reports, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Minister of State for Electronics, Information, and Technology, announced that the government will come out with a new comprehensive legal framework within three to four months that will address digital data protection and non-personal anonymous data. He emphasized that the government is working to expand India's innovation ecosystem and that the Internet and technology will play an important role in the continued expansion of our economy.
As for data privacy, the Digital India Act is under discussion to also introduce a law to protect digital data and keep users safe. The new regulation is expected to cover the entire digital ecosystem, be it social media, OTT platforms, metaverse, etc. The regulations will allow the government to temporarily block a Twitter handle or Facebook page for 24 hours if it is found to be spreading misinformation or inciting violence.
According to media reports, the minister of electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a statement to the Lok Sabha that the government would replace the bill with a comprehensive legal framework for the digital ecosystem that is currently in the works.
