John Jacob goes International

A new-age, global eyewear brand, John Jacobs was launched in 2015, bringing luxury eyewear to fashion-conscious shoppers through a direct-to-consumer model. The brand aims to shift perspectives, and help people to bring their identities to life.

“The brand’s unique approach to eyewear has already seen wide acceptance in Singapore, through retail partner Lenskart,” says Mr. Manan Duggal, Business Head of John Jacobs. “We’re all set to expand our footprint in the city with five brand-new stores in the coming six months. We hope that every time a shopper visits our store, they’ll find something new.”

The Tampines 1 store also hopes to present a different approach to the usual experience of shopping for eyewear—as many frames crammed into a store as possible, designed to feel like fast fashion, and focusing on high volume sales. Instead, Singapore’s store comes with clean high tables with mirrors, similar to makeup counters. Shoppers can select a few choice frames from across the store, and try them on at these tables—no need to peer into awkwardly-placed mirrors around the store, with multiple pairs of frames dangling from your hand.

In a YouGov survey that Lenskart conducted with over 200 respondents in Singapore, the brand found that eyewear shoppers have seemingly contradictory needs—shopping for spectacles usually happens when there’s a need for a replacement pair, but over 72% of shoppers expressed that their eyewear needs to make them feel presentable, confident, and like their best selves. As such, the brand sees eyewear as a medium of personal expression, rather than being a mere functional aid to sight. John Jacobs keeps abreast of the latest in global fashion trends, identifying up-and-coming popular styles as well as fail-safe favorites—consumers have more than 600 classics, subtle, bold, and trendy styles to choose from. Fresh collections are also offered alongside the regular fashion seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Eliminating the middleman allows for John Jacobs eyewear to be accessible price for premium eyewear, starting from SGD118 for sunglasses, SGD248 for acetate, stainless steel, flex frames, to SGD298 for titanium frames. With a belief in providing value, John Jacobs aims to understand the unique, individual styles of their fans, and to provide eyewear choices that aren’t run-of-the-mill, at affordable price points.
