MAMI & Reliance Entertainment reveal exciting plans for 14th Mumbai Film Festival

The Board of Trustees of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) on Tuesday (17th July 2012) evening shared insights and discussed the upcoming 14th Mumbai Film Festival, a Reliance Entertainment initiative. The eagerly awaited cultural landmark of the city, the 14th Mumbai Film Festival will be held from October 18 – October 25, 2012.
 
The dignitaries present at the Board meeting included MAMI, Chairman, Mr. Shyam Benegal, MAMI, Trustees, Mr. Ramesh Sippy, Mr. Sudhir Mishra, Mr. Ashutosh Gowariker, Mr. Amol Palekar, Mr. Amit Khanna,  Reliance Entertainment, CEO, Mr. Sanjeev Lamba and Festival Director Mr. Srinivasan Narayanan.
 
It was announced that filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra have joined the MAMI board as trustees and will be actively involved in all spheres of the festival along with the other trustees.
 
The festival will move to the south of Mumbai, heart of the City with NCPA and INOX as the festival venue. This development comes with growing demand from cinema enthusiasts to accommodate them in larger number, thereby expand the cinematic and cultural threshold and enrich their film festival experience.
 
To celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema, Mumbai Film Festival is introducing a Competition section for Indian films with a cumulative cash reward of Rupees 15 Lakh (USD 31,000 approx). Other special events being organized to celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema during the course of the 14th Mumbai Festival will be announced shortly. 
 
The Festival will pay tribute to Italian Cinema through a special selection of films in the CELEBRATION OF ITALIAN CINEMA. It is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in India and Mr. Italo Spinelli.  The package will include films from all major directors and also restored films like ‘Maciste’ (1915) and ‘Inferno’ (1911).
 
Following last year’s roaring response for the French films, the new edition of “Rendezvous with French Cinema” will be hosted by the 14th Mumbai Film Festival in collaboration with the Embassy of France in India and Unifrance.
 
In addition to screening the best of World cinema to foster a climate of good cinema, the 14th Mumbai Film Festival this year aims to scale up its Film Market, the Mumbai Film Mart. Also shared were the festival’s crowd-sourcing activities underway in tandem with Talenthouse for Dimensions Mumbai Competition and Poster design contests that are generating great participation by the festival patrons.
