Netflix forays into live sports with The Netflix Cup

Netflix is foraying into the world of live sports with The Netflix Cup, a first-of-its-kind live sports event that features athletes from Formula 1: Drive to Survive and golf doc series Full Swing in a match-play tournament at the 18-hole Wynn Golf Club at Wynn Las Vegas, kicking off the week of the first-ever Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The tournament will include four pairs, each consisting of one Formula 1 driver and one PGA Tour professional, playing an eight-hole match. The Netflix Cup will be played in two matches, with two pairs of athletes competing in each match. The winners from Match 1 and Match 2 will then compete in a final playoff for a chance to take home the Netflix Cup.
Produced by Excel Sports Management, BZ Entertainment, and Full Day Productions, the tournament begins on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET, kicking off the week of what’s been called the biggest event F1 has ever hosted, the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix.
“The continued success of Drive to Survive has played a significant role in the growth of Formula 1 in the US, which has ultimately led to the addition of a third American race,” said Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer, Las Vegas Grand Prix. “It’s only fitting that we kick off our inaugural race weekend with a fun event that can be streamed by F1 and PGA Tour fans around the globe.”
