No IPL 2020 matches in Delhi, says Delhi Government

Even as the governing body of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to meet tomorrow (March 14, 2020) and decide on the future course for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, media is already rife with speculations that the tournament will be a TV-only event and played in empty stadiums in light of the growing spread of the Coronavirus.

Now, the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi has said that no IPL matches of the 2020 edition will be played in the Capital city. This was announced by Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Delhi Government, at a press conference today. Sisodia told the media, “We have decided to ban any sports activity where people will gather in huge numbers like the IPL. Social distancing is important to curb the breakout of Coronavirus.”

As per the IPL 2020 schedule, Delhi is to host its first IPL match on Monday, March 30, between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals.
