Power Couple: Mood & Moments

Power Couple, the first of its kind show on Indian television has been created by Colosceum Media. The production house, as is known, has created a number of reality shows for Indian television like Roadies, Masterchef and Splitsvilla. The show is being aired on Sony Entertainment Television seven days a week.

Lalit Sharma, Chief Creative officer Colosceum, believes that it is Colosceum’s spirit and experience with a romance reality show like Splitsvilla that led to the show coming their way. He expresses, “Sony wanted Power Couple to be a game changer. It is basically a romance reality show. In 2008, when we first started with Splitsvilla, nobody was aware what romance reality shows were.” He points out, “As a producer, to create something which has romance, you need to feel the romance. My team and I are very loveable and romantic people. You can create good content, only if you are able to feel about it.”

The key differentiator that Power Couple has vis-à-vis the other reality shows created by Colosceum is that it has a number of celebrities in it. He expresses, “Handling artists is very challenging and out of our comfort zone. This kind of show needs to have minimum preparation time of six months, but we did it in two months, so that was challenging and commendable.” He pats his team on the back, “Though there were a lot of challenges, it was the team's right intent that made the show possible.”

A lot of ground work was done to get the mood and feel right. Finer details were kept in mind in the entire planning process: from selection of couples, locale finalisation to the tasks assigned to celebrities. Lalit informs, “Selecting the couples, taking up the villa, arranging the right type of camera and all the permissions, everything mattered. Reality show is all about capturing each and every moment, you need to have right amount of camera, make the right kind of quality, everything had to be taken care of. Getting the right team for this kind of show was super challenging. It is a scheduled based show so every day some or the other activity is being planned and managing that was a task.”

Only a few tasks are executed inside the villa. Besides this, there is a huge area where most of the tasks are done. Other locations include beautiful resorts and villas of Goa. Lalit takes us through the process of task selection, “My team is very creative with things. Each week there are three tasks to be performed, that makes up to 39 tasks. We had about 70 tasks in our hand. Before the couples, we would execute the task and see whether the emotion is coming to the fore or not and whether the output will be up to the expectations.”

Initially, it was rather difficult for the celebrities as they have never been exposed to this kind of act. However with time they got into the groove and results are seen on the television screen. “They are doing quite well after eight weeks of shooting,” expresses Lalit.
