Radio City's Women at Work inaugural forum witnessed over 70 participants across industries
With an aim to offer a platform that helps working women in building connections with each other and share thoughts, ideas and views on related topics, Apurva Purohit, CEO, Radio City 91.1 FM established the ‘Building Connections’ forum. The first of its forums held at Grand Hyatt early this month, was attended by highly motivated and successful women from diverse industries.
The event witnessed some lovely interactions with many women bravely sharing intimate parts of their lives with each other and had one of the most good looking and colorful audiences. Three wonderful women talked about their lives and their stories and each presentation stood out for its remarkable content, style and the underlying determination with which each of them had pursued their dreams.
Latika Khosla, the Design Director of Freedom Tree Design, a color and trend studio based in Mumbai shared her proficiency at work with everyone. She spoke about her journey to set up Freedom Tree as a lifestyle retail outlet and her efforts over many years to bring design and color into our lives.
Gitanjali Rao, a self taught animator and film maker and theatre artist, spoke about her passion for animation which she has pursued diligently on an oft lonely road. She showcased 'Printed Rainbow' which she has independently produced, directed and animated and which went on to win three Awards for the Best Short film at Cannes 2006. It was a beautiful film and at the end of it, there was not a single dry eye in the audience.
Nandini Srikar, a hugely talented composer, singer and musician shared her 15 year struggle in the music industry to launch her album and create a space for herself. She shared her experiences about making her album ‘Beete Pal’ and her recent venture in two Bollywood films.. The audience loved her on stage as she performed live.
Beyond the diversity of talent that was present that day, what stood out was the passion which the ladies had brought to their craft and the tenacity which helped them convert their dreams into reality. From sleeping on railway stations , to watching the burning down of the store 40 days prior to launch, to diligently creating a beautiful film without any financial support stroke by stroke!
Moreover, in an attempt to support various social causes, three of the most trusted NGO’s were invited for the forum. ‘Akanksha Foundation’, a non-profit organization with the vision to equip all students with education and skills, ‘Sneha’ (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) , an NGO with the aim of improving lives of the vulnerable women and children in Mumbai slums and ‘ADAPT’, formerly known as ‘The Spastics Society of India’ works to create an inclusive disability friendly nation. The NGO’s displayed their respective items for sale and were overwhelmed with the response they received.
With so many accomplished women who are brilliant at all spheres of life, the event was a truly exceptional one. Kudos to all the ‘Women at Work!’
