Star Pravah ushers in a new wave with it's short series format

The Marathi GEC STAR Pravah launched with the vision to set new benchmark in multi genre Marathi content on television has always made an effort to live up to their audiences expectations with unique concepts. The channel is now launching ‘STAR Pravah Premiere’, which is a first-of-its-kind programming initiative on Marathi television. STAR Pravah Premiere is a series of fresh and original short stories exclusively conceptualized and created by the channel focusing on excellent production quality and treatment that will be on par with a regular feature film. The initiative includes telecasting a series of short stories every month and each of these  stories will be of two hour duration. The series is expected to be aired on the first Sunday of every month.

In an exclusive interaction with Adgully, Ms. Shrabani Deodhar, Creative Director, STAR Pravah explained in detail  the concept of the show. She said, “We are inviting people to come and pitch in for the short stories.  A writer, Tejas Tungare approached us with a short story. We took an immense liking to the story and concept which he narrated and that is how this concept originated.”
STAR Pravah has been at the forefront of providing innovative, original and entertaining content to its viewers.  With ‘Star Pravah Premiere’ they are planning to take their concepts to the next level as the channel intends showcasing their inhouse talent to the world and are sure  that their viewers will appreciate this initiative.

Deodhar further added, “Short stories is a new format for us and we are looking at working with subjects that are not easily adaptable to a serial format. We will try and present a fresh and new aspect to relationships in every story that will be showcased under this initiative. We will have different writers who will come and pitch in for different stories and different production houses as well. With new writers and new producers every story will have a new flavour and colour. So, every Sunday viewers will have something new to watch and look forward to.”

They do not wish to hurt audience’s sentiments with their concept, and intend to offer the content in a very healthy way. “We want to portray humour in a healthy way, which can be difficult to accomplish.”

When asked why they opted for short stories, she explained, “We are doing short stories because they have a definite and finite end.  Usually soaps do not have a finite end with new and different plots continuously developing in the story. But our stories will have an emotional connect at the end.”

Star Pravah’s first short story under this initiative is ‘Danga 2 BHK’, produced by Dashmi Creations and directed by Hemant Deodhar. Danga 2 BHK is the story of a young just-married couple from diverse cultural backgrounds coming to terms with situations that arise when both sets of parents come to stay with them. The culture clashes that arise in their relationships is portrayed in a humorous way.
Danga 2 BHK has noted artists like Uday Tikekar, Suchitra Bandekar, Uday Sabnis, and Priya Berde playing the roles of the parents while Siddharth Chandekar and Prarthana Behere play the role of the young married couple.

The channel’s investment in terms of production of the TV series is higher than the regular shows, since the length of each story is two hours  which is four times more than the half-hour episode of any soap on air today. High quality equipments such as a professional cameras, set of professional technicians and camerapersons will be utilized for the shoots.

On a conclusive note Deodhar added “We experience success and failure in life, but always keep working on new concepts. So, this unique concept is something fresh for our viewers and I hope they will appreciate it.”

The show goes on air effective 4th August 2013 at 7 p.m. only on STAR PRAVAH.
