TV this week: Royal Wedding attracts 4.2 mn unique audiences for TLC

According to the latest TAM data Star Plus is at number one spot with an increased Gross Rating Point (GRP) and Channel Share (CS) of 334 and 27.4% respectively. Moreover this week Star Plus's show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hain is the number one show across all GECs with a TVR of 5.13%. The channel also has four more shows amongst the top 10 shows across channels which includes Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Sasural Genda Phool, Pratigya and Navya.

With an increased GRP of 232 and a CS of 19.1% Colors is at the number two position this week. Moreover, this week too, Uttaran (TVR- 4.22%), Balika Vadhu (TVR-4.06%) and Naa Aana Is Des Meri Laado (TVR 3.37%) from Colors' wide offering are amongst the top 10 shows and placed at number 4, 6 and 8 respectively.

Zee TV is at number three again and this time with an increased GRP and CS of 208 and 17.1% respectively. Zee TV's Pavitra Rishta after having lost its number one position and is the number 2 show across all this GECs with a TVR of 4.94%. Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli (TVR- 3.54%) is at number 7 this week.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) at number four this week has a reduced GRP and CS of 139 and 11.4% respectively. None of the shows from the channel's offering has made it to the top 10 shows' list this week too.

SAB has retained its fifth position with a GRP of 138 and a CS of 11.3% and Imagine is positioned at number seven with a GRP and CS of 59 and 4.8% respectively.

But the biggest news in terms of TV ratings this week has been that the Live coverage of The Royal Wedding: William & Kate scheduled on 29th April 2011 gave TLC high ratings amongst the English News and entertainment channels.

The viewership of the Live coverage on TLC was more than 100% than Times Now, NDTV 24*7 and CNN-IBN and 238 % ahead of BBC Entertainment. Even in audience groups 15+ Females and 15+ Males across India, TLC came on top, way ahead of English news channels Times Now, NDTV 24*7, CNN-IBN, BBC Entertainment and any other channel that covered the wedding Live.

This programme performance on TLC increased the channel's share by 48% while the slot ratings went up by an astonishing 826%. The week-long special line-up along with the Live wedding coverage airings in total attracted 4.2 million unique people to the channel.

While the Royal Wedding attracted eyeballs TAM Sports this week has reported that amongst the many Indian Premier League matches, the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils has garnered a TVR of 5.20%. While the match between Chennai Super King and Pune Warriors India got a TVR of 4.63%, the match between Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challenge Bangalore gathered a TVR of 4.32%. | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
