TV This Week: Star Plus leads with soaring weekday primetime viewership

The IPL 7 now in its third week continues to impact viewership of the Hindi GECs. Zee TV, Colors and Sony Entertainment Television lost viewership in week 18 of TAM 2014. The 2nd and 3rd placed channels Zee & Colors lost 34 million GVMs and 27 million GVMs respectively. Meanwhile Star Plus ratings seem to be soaring albeit with a marginal increase this week and has succeeded in remaining above the 700 million plus mark on the back of its weekday primetime viewership numbers. Life OK and SAB TV gained marginally in week 18. With no change in the pecking order, Star Plus continues to surge ahead and has widened the gap even further with Zee TV as indicated by viewership data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 18, 2014 (April 27 – May 3 ) for CS 4+, HSM markets. 

Detailed below is the data of the GEC’s ratings for this week with previous week’s figures enlisted in the brackets:

Star Plus at the top of the GEC chart witnessed a marginal climb in viewership this week to record 746025 million GVTs (gross TV viewership in million) as against 743435 million GVTs recorded last week.

Zee TV ratings too witnessed a steep decline this week but continues to be at 2nd spot and recorded 409010 million GVTs (last week 444500 GVTs).

Colors, is steadily losing viewership but remains at no. 3 position.  The channels ratings plunged as it recorded 396193 million GVTs as against last week’s 423262 million GVTs.

Life OK steady at no. 4 gained marginally as the channel registered 360213 million GVTs (last week 349580 million GVTs).

Sony Entertainment Television ratings dipped this week as the channel recorded 290948 million GVTs (last week 297073 million GVTs).  The channel remains at no. 5 this week

SAB TV continues to be in 6th spot but recorded improved ratings with a score of 267113    million GVTs (260127 million GVTs) in week 18

Following is the market-wise program performance of Hindi Movie channels in Wk 18 2014:

Z Cinema viewership dropped as it recorded 188125 GVTs as against last week’s 203672 ; Sony Max too registered downslide with 457415 GVTs (495922 GVTs) ; &pictures lost eyeballs as it recorded  82537  GVTs (85,904 GVTs) ; Movies OK ratings increased this week as it registered   143794  GVTs (123291 GVTs) ; UTV Movies recorded 83636 GVTs (89404 GVTs) and Star Gold recorded 189294 GVTs as against last week’s  192633 GVTs

Following are the weekday/weekend toppers on the various channels:-

Star Plus
Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus scored 12,233 TVTs this week (13,301 TVTs). Saathiya Saath recorded 8,885 TVTs (9,503 TVTs).  Epic series, Mahabharat lost eyeballs as it garnered 6,908 TVTs this week (7,346 TVTs). Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fetched 7573 TVTs (7490 TVTs).  Saraswati Chandra garnered  5093 TVTs (last week 5362 TVTs). Veera clocked 7086 TVTs (last week 6784 TVTs) and Pyaar Ka Dard Hai on the  channel fetched   6295  TVTs (last week 6310 TVTs).

Zee TV
Jodha Akbar ratings dipped this week as it recorded   9139  TVTs (last week 9834 TVTs) ; Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se recorded  5179 TVTs (last week 4941 TVTs). Sapne Suhane registered  4717 TVTs (5281 TVTs), Qubool Hai recorded 4193 TVTs (last week 4588 TVTs) and DID Li’lMasters 3 recorded  3783  TVTs this week as against last week’s score of 3906.

Colors
Reality show Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi ratings improved with increased viewership and fetched 6570 TVTs in week 18 (5752 TVTs). So also Comedy Nights with Kapil which recorded 7198 TVTs ( last week 6992 TVTs ) ; Beintehaa registered  3351 TVTs (3667 TVTs) ; Uttaran recorded 3254 TVTs (3485 TVTs ), Bani – Ishq Da Kalma recorded 2212 TVTs (last week 2689 TVTs) and Sasural Simar Ka registered   3904 TVTs ((last week 4445 TVTs)

Life OK
Tumhari Pakhi recorded 2445 TVTs (2585 TVTs); Ek Boond Ishq - 2364  TVTs (2324 TVTs), Savdhan India - 2480 TVTs (2153 TVTs) ; Adventures of Hatim – 2141 TVTs (last week 2364 TVTs) and Shapath - 2852 TVTs (last week 2546 TVTs)

Sony Entertainment Television
CID recorded 3034 TVTs (3757 TVTs) ; Maharana Veer Pratap –  2858  TVTs (2828 TVTs), Ek Nayi Pehchan- 1149 TVTs (1328 TVTs), Encounter –1395 TVTs (1653 TVTs); Crime Patrol registered 2680  TVTs as against 2624 TVTs last week and  Jee Le Zara – 1297 TVTs (1305 TVTs)

SAB TV
Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma lost viewership this week as it registered 5880 TVTs (last week  6098 TVTs) ; Chidiya Ghar –  2183 TVTs (2101 TVTs);  Lapataganj recorded 1654    TVTs (1453 TVTs) & Bal Veer recorded 2734 TVTs (2549 TVTs).

Popular super-hero kids show Baal Veer on SAB TV which entertains kids and takes them into magical trips to fairyland has succeeded Mahadev (Life Ok) since the last four weeks and the time spent per viewer for Baal Veer has also increased consistently. In terms of time spent per viewer, Baal Veer stands No. 3 in its 8pm slot behind Balika Vadhu (No.2) and Jodha Akbar (No.1) in the current week. 

Being popular among the younger audience segment, currently, Baal Veer is at No. 2 in its 8pm segment in kids’ genre. It continues to gain traction amongst the adult male and female audience sections in the last few weeks, making it a wholesome family entertainer in all aspects.
