VRL Media gears up to launch Kannada news channel - Hossa News

VRL Media has unveiled its plans to launch a new Kannada news channel. Christened Hossa News, the new channel is slated to launch around November this year, according to sources close to the channel.

The sources further said that the channel would serve best quality content and “promise to fill the vacuum, where the Kannada channels are lacking”. The channel, which has got the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s nod, will be headquartered in Bengaluru.

As is known, there are 11 Kannada news channel currently in the market – ETV News, TV9, Suvarna News, Udaya News, Public, Prajaa, Raj News, Samaya, Janasri, and Kasturi News.

As per BARC data for Week 41 2015 to Week 25 2016, Avg. GVMs | Market: Karnataka | TG: NCCS 4+ | All Days, news channels has a mere 9 per cent of the share of Kannada viewers, while GECs command a 64 per cent viewer share.
