Week 44: Colors is #1 Hindi GEC channel by a huge margin

Colors has been going great guns ever since the channel's launch in India. The Hindi GEC has strengthened its standing as the number 1 channel by a fair measure. According to TAM Media Research, Colors enjoyed a rating of 340GRPs in week 44. This led to the channel commanding control over 24 percent share of the overall Hindi GEC space.

Star Plus followed in at the number two spot, almost 100 GRPs behind Colors at 243 while Zee TV stood third with 234GRPs. Both the channels have a share of 17 percent each while Sony is slowly marching up and has earned a share of 11 percent with 160GRPs.

The surprise element of the package, however, was DD1. DD1 simply demolished remaining players like NDTV Imagine, SAB TV and Star One. DD1 stood at the number 4th slot with 139GRPs with NDTV Imagine trailing it with 103GRPs to make up for 5th position. With this surprising climb, DD1 now has a 10 percent share of the Hindi GEC pie while NDTV Imagine has a 7 percent share.

The channels making up the rear end of the chart are SAB TV and Star One controlling 5 and 3 percent channel share respectively while Sahara One manages 2 percent. Both 9X and Star Utsav have a 1 percent share each.

Interestingly, five programmes of Colors are in the top ten with Uttaran taking the top honours with a TVR of 8.6. Balika Vadhu follows in closely at second that gets a TVR of 7.3 and Na Aana Is Des Laado comes in at number 3 spot with a TVR of 5.8.
