Weekend Exclusive | ''Safar Filmy Comedy Ka' is my tribute to Bollywood: Dheeraj Kumar

He is a veteran Indian actor, producer and director and owns his production company, Creative Eye. After working on different genre of emotions, he is back with a complete comical show and seems to be very excited about it. Adgully caught up with Dheeraj Kumar post the launch of his  show, ‘‘Safar Filmy Comedy Ka (SFCK).”

The show has gone on air from January 27, 2013 at 9 pm on SAB TV.

SFCK is a non-fiction show from SAB TV that traces the journey of comedy through 100 years of cinema. We asked Kumar on what tempted him to come up with a show on comedy genre, he promptly said, “Everyone knows that prior to this I have done many shows of almost all the genres and in many languages. For this show I would like to say that I personally wanted to pay a tribute to our Hindi film industry.”

“This industry has given me a lot, as I am associated with it since a long time; it’s been 40 years with Bollywood,” he added.

This show is a tribute to the contribution of comedians and industry veterans towards the genre of comedy. As our film industry completed its 100 years last year, we asked him his thoughts about sticking to this genre of entertainment and he gracefully said, “I thought that if we pay tribute to our 100 year old film industry in a serious manner, it would be more of a research based subject and will just remain an informative show for our audience. But, if we try to express it in the form of light-hearted comedy, we would be paying tribute to our industry while involving our audiences by entertaining them.”

Having worked on different shows mostly emotional dramas, Kumar feels that diversification is a must and we should try and experiment new things with time. He would like to experiment the genre of comedy further.

As SAB TV has justified itself as the No.1 comedy channel, we asked Kumar what is the USP of this show. He said, “The show is first of its kind being presented on TV screen. Apart from it, it’s been made for all the generations, and as the new generation doesn’t know much about the talented artists of past decades they’ll learn a lot about our industry while getting entertained. This was one of the logical reasons involved in producing this show.”

The show SFCK is not only taking the channel towards next level of achievement but also complementing the tagline and culture of SAB TV which says,  "Asli mazaa sabke saath aata hai." Kumar has high expectations from the show and he confidently says, “this show will be appreciated by our audience and they’ll love it as it’s a complete family entertainment. It’s much different from the set entertainment and drama. The concept itself is very unique and when entertainment gets mixed with such a unique concept than it becomes a treat to watch.”

This show would be one of its kind as it will showcase one trend of comedy including physical, action, slapstick, cult comedy, mistaken identity and a lot more that has been experimented in 100 years of cinema.

On asking about what kind of show he would like to make next, he said “I would want to work on pure youth oriented story, as that is one genre which is missing from house of Creative Eye.”
