Weekend Exclusive | Self-made rules and style: Nikhil Chinapa

As soon as you hear the name, Nikhil Chinapa or may be VJ Nikhil I am sure you build an image of nice and good looking face with huge head phones! Don't you!

A man who needs no introduction but still Chinapa is an Indian radio jockey and video jockey and a very popular face at MTV India. He has been presenting shows for more than a decade now on MTV. He started his career when the terms DJ and VJ were not even familiar to people. He is now the Festival Director of Asia's premier music festival - Sunburn Festival in Goa.

Since Adgully, caught up with Chinapa at Lakme Fashion Week summer/resort 2012 to share a few words with him, the very first question we asked him was about his favorite designer. He very joyfully said, "I would love a person who designs jeans and T-shirt."

Chinapa has been in the industry since ages and the journey seems to be really amazing. He has been doing amazingly well in all the fields may it be music, DJ, movies, show anchoring and what not!!

Chinapa wanted to set up his career in Radio but unfortunately couldn't make but though he tried fourteen fifteen years ago. He always wanted to associate himself with Radio.

He told us that he has been running really busy with MTV shows; Splitsvilla and Captainshack and has enjoyed a lot. Speaking about his plans for 2012, he told us that the year would be really busy for him. He says, "The year is full of events and a lot of things are happening like sunburn summer festival, winter festival, then we have DJ championship coming up. Apart from the music my new radio show is coming up on Radio one, 91.4 and have been enjoying a lot doing that show."

Since he has faced all the fields, so on asking whether RJ or VJ, which is his favorite, he firstly made it clear that he is really against the term RJ¦it's "Radio Host'¦but what he loves most is DJ-ing.

He says, "There have been a few high points in my life. The first was when I discovered that the girl I want to marry is also crazy about music like me," which was like the "WOW' moment for him.

When asked about his inspiration, he very truly said, "When I started hosting the shows there was hardly anyone to look up to and we made our own rules and style."

He has also been a judge of Fame X in 2006 in its first series with Daler Mehndi and Ganesh Hegde. He hosted "India's Got Talent" along with MTV VJ Ayushmann Khurrana on "Colors" channel. Then he was appointed as a jury member in a new show in MTV India known as "Mtv Rock On". He was also a judge for three seasons of MTV hero Honda roadies and how can we forget, he hosted MTV Splitsvilla also. | By Aanchal Kohli [aanchal(at)adgully.com]
