Word of mouth crucial for a film like Mission Raniganj: Akshay Kumar

Last week we witnessed the release of Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue. The movie with a star-studded cast including Parineeti Chopra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishen, Sudhir Pandey, Varun Badola, Jameel Khan and Dibyendu Bhattacharya has been getting rave reviews. Akshay, who has been always active in every promotion, has not promoted this film before the release. After a good positive feedback of this rescue drama Akshay and Team Mission Ranigunj met the media and spoke about it, ”I am in the business of films for so long that I have realised if Akshay Kumar will ask to watch a certain film, the public will never watch it. It is always the word of mouth which is the most effective promotion. I have done aggressive promotions for my film Selfie; did it work? Even the media knows before the release of any films that an actor will only say good things about the film. But what matters is the end result. Word of mouth is important for a film like Mission Raniganj.”

Akshay, who has played the role of Jaswant Singh Gill in Mission Ranigunj, convincingly says, ”I have met him a couple of times when he was alive. Unfortunately he is no more with us. My director Tinu Suresh Desai is incredible. He did his homework so well that once he was on the set, he was very confident and the way he executed the film was too good. I have just followed his instructions.”

Akshay, who is known as Khiladi Kumar, has done various kind of films in the last few years. Apart from his commercial releasees he has done films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Padman, Airlift, Rustom, Mission Mangal and OMG all of which had a realistic approach and was based on real life heroes. So was it a conscious decision to be a part of those films?”When we were growing up there were maximum 2-3 professions like doctors and engineers. But look at the situation now. The other day someone was telling me her daughter has watched Misson Mangal and she wants to become an astronaut. So it is inspiring that you are part of these kind of films. These films has a niche audience but I am happy that my films have done commercially well also. I am happy doing a film that brings a change in the society.”
