Yash Raj Films Studios in exclusive pact with Netflix for three projects

Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studios has collaborated with Netflix to make three projects, which will be released on the OTT platform directly. The first project, ‘Mandala Murders’, will mark the digital debut of Vaani Kapoor; while the second project, ‘Maharaj’, will introduce Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan; and the third film, ‘Vijay 69’, will see Anupam Kher competing in a thrillathon at the age of 69.

The series, ‘Mandala Murders’, is a crime thriller, which will see Vaani Kapoor playing the role of a detective. The series is directed by Gopi Puthran. On her OTT debut, Vaani says, “It is my first series. This is the first time that I am venturing into the digital arena with YRF and Netflix. It is a proud moment for me. I have never worked in this genre before – I have never done action, crime or thriller genres. I am excited to have got this opportunity to get into the psyche, navigating through a maze of intrigue and suspense. The edge-of-the-seat-drama will keep viewers guessing about what will happen next. I like binging on murder mysteries, thrillers and crime dramas on Netflix.”

Talking about preparing for his role in the slice-of-life film, ‘Vijay 69’, Anupam Kher says, “When director Akshay Roy narrated this story to me, I did not know how to swim, so I learnt swimming for this role. It was a great opportunity for me and it helps to learn new things as an actor. I have done so many films and after having watched this film, it will come under my top five films. It is an inspiring story. When one looks back at one’s achievements in life, I think everyone should have such a story to narrate and feel proud about it. After shooting for this film I felt like I have shot for ten films together at a same time! I use to run, cycle – there was lot of physical work.”

Speaking about his experiences while shooting for the film, Anupan shared, “I don’t like scenes where I have to eat, because while giving takes the food becomes stale. I never eat stale food – my mother used to chide me for this, saying “you are not a king to eat fresh food all the time”! But it was different for ‘Vijay 69’, where I enjoyed it. If you are passionate about the film, then you don't feel it is a difficult job. Nevertheless, it was a tough task as I fractured my shoulder while shooting and we could not shoot for four months, though only three days of shooting were left.”

Continuing further, Anupam says, “A lot of people come here to work in the film industry, but very few are able to make their mark. I am one of them and that is why I have stopped complaining about anything. I want to make my work difficult otherwise how do you stay number one in terms of your own expectations?”

Meanwhile, Yashraj Studios also revealed the teaser of their upcoming film, ‘Maharaj’, which will mark the acting debut of Junaid Khan. The film also features Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari and Shalini Pandey. ‘Maharaj’ is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, who shares about the film, “Set in the 1800s, ‘Maharaj’ is a film that is inspired by true events. It is a film that shows the resilience of human spirit and how a common man could wield the courage to help people around him and thus, help society at large. Get set to be mesmerised by a world of horse-drawn carriages, old-school printing presses, kaccha roads, beautiful traditions and a man’s willpower to do good. We are beyond thrilled to present ‘Maharaj’, which is set to stream exclusively on Netflix. A story like this will resonate with the audiences globally and Netflix is the perfect platform to take our story to the world.”
