533 million users FB data leaked in 2019 surfaces on the Web

Facebook data that was leaked in 2019 has been published for free on a hacker forum. According to news reports, data of ~500 million Facebook users that includes Facebook ID numbers, profile names, email addresses, location information, gender details, job data and phone numbers have appeared.

The social media company has said that this is old data previously reported in 2019.  Facebook had found and fixed the issue by August 2019. According to a media report, out of 533 million, 6.1 million records that were leaked belonged to Indians.

With the data now in the public domain, there is a danger that this information may be used by cybercriminals for email or SMS scams, robocalls, extortion attempts, threats and harassment.
