Anirban Lahiri tees up at the Masters; becomes only the third Indian ever to participate in the Masters

Anirban Lahiri will become only the third Indian to compete in the Golf Masters when he tees up at the Augusta National Golf Club this week for the sport’s most prestigious tournament. The Masters, a by-invitation only meeting, runs from April 9-12 and will be broadcast live on Star Sports.

Participation in the tournament marks the realization of a lifelong dream for Lahiri. The 27-year-old will go up against such legends of the sport as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and the current World No 1 Rory McIlroy, in the fight for the coveted Green Jacket.

Lahiri, invited to compete in the Masters for the first time, follows in the footsteps of compatriots Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal. Singh made three consecutive Masters appearances starting 2009 while Atwal competed in the tournament in 2011.

The Masters will also see Rory McIlroy tee off with his childhood hero Tiger Woods, completing an incredible journey from a massive fan to a competitor.

Played amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, the Masters over its 80-year history has set the stage for some of golf’s greatest moments.

The winner is decided over four days of play after 72 holes and is assured of a place in the sport’s history.
