BARC Wk 17: Sun TV emerges as the leading South GEC

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India’s data for Week 17 (Saturday, 24th April 2021 To Friday, 30th April 2021) shows Tamil GEC Sun TV as the leading channel, garnering Average Minute Audiences (AMA) of 2421.56(000) impressions with all the top shows belonging to the channel [(U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals]. The South GECs comprise four languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Kannada

In Karnataka [(U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], Zee Kannada has been the constant leader. The channel garnered 1032.08(000) AMA, followed by Colors Kannada at 833.45(000) AMA, Udaya TV at 613.74(000) AMA, Star Suvarna at 605.29(000) AMA, and Udaya Movies at 511.94 (000) AMA.

Zee Kannada’s four shows – Satya, Naagini 2, Comedy Khiladigalu Championship and Paaru – were the most watched shows with 4,797(000), 4,030(000), 3,629(000) and 3,442(000) AMA, respectively.

Colors Kannada’s Mangala Gowri Maduve took the 3rd spot with 3,862(000) AMA.

Malayalam

In Kerala [(U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], Asianet leads with 877.77(000) AMA, followed by Zee Keralam with 245.24(000) AMA, Mazhavil Manorma at 222.98(000) which was in the fourth position last week, Flowers TV which came down to fourth from third position this week at 217.3(000) AMA, and Asianet Movies at 185.47(000) AMA.

All the Top 5 shows of Malayalam GECs belong to Asianet channel. Santhawanam, Kudumbavilakku, Mounaragam, Koodevide and Ammayariyathe were the most watched Malayalam shows with 5,860(000), 5,591(000), 4,585(000), 4,480(00) and 4,456(000) AMA, respectively.  

Tamil

In Tamil Nadu/ Puducherry [(U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], Sun TV led with 2421.56(000) AMA, followed by Star Vijay, Zee Tamil, KTV and Star Vijay Super with 1781.59(000), 1029.63(000), 685.7(000) and 480.26(000) AMA, respectively.

Three out of the Top 5 shows are from Sun TV channel – namely, Roja, TFF-Komban, Vanathai Pola with 8,930(000), 8,351(000) and 7,735(000) AMA, respectively.

The other two shows are from Star Vijay Bharathi Kannamma at 7,757(000) and Bhagyalakshmi at 6,757(000) AMA on third and fifth positions, respectively.

Telugu

In AP/ Telangana [(U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals], Star Maa led with 2180.78(000) AMA, followed by Zee Telugu at 1556.12(000) AMA, ETV Telugu at 1212.99(000) AMA, Gemini TV at 797.22(000) AMA and Star Maa Movies at 624.24(000) AMA.

All the Top 5 shows belong to Star Maa channel. Karthika Deepam has garnered the maximum viewership of 13,997(000) AMA, followed by Intinti Gruhalakshmi with 9,251(000) AMA, Guppedantha Manasu with 8,256(000) AMA, Devatha with 6,883(000) AMA and Janaki Kalaganaledu with 6,074(000) AMA.
