Bombay HC says Republic TV not named in FIR for TRP case

During the Bombay High Court proceedings in the case of alleged manipulation of TRP ratings, the Bench of Justices noted that Republic TV has not yet been arrayed as an accused in the Mumbai Police FIR. The Court stated that in such a scenario it is unlikely that Arnab Goswami would be arrested before the next hearing scheduled on November 5.

Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing on behalf of Republic TV had challenged the case being investigated by Mumbai Police, as far as Republic TV and its employees were concerned. However, appearing for State of Maharashtra, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal argued that since there is no mention of Republic TV in the FIR, how can the case be quashed? Salve highlighted the fact that Mumbai Police in a press conference had specifically named Republic TV in its allegations of TRP manipulation.

Sibal asserted that there is no need to grant interim relief as there is no question of Arnab Goswami being arrested. He said if a summons is issued by the Court then the petitioner should coorperate with the authorities.
