DD National to celebrate the grandeur of Urdu language with 'Dastan-E-Urdu'

This Eid the history of Urdu will come alive on your television screen, as DD National will begin telecasting a 13-part docu-drama “Dastan-E-Urdu”. The series offer a fresh take on the fascinating history of this Indian language, breaking many myths and unveiling several interesting cross-cultural connections. An exclusive treat for the Urdu lovers this Eid, watch Dastan-e-Urdu from 27th July onwards, every Sunday at 9:30 pm on DD National.

If languages reveal the history of a civilization, the texture of a culture, then the story of Urdu represents the evolution of India’s secular, syncretic identity. With this thought, Doordarshan is set to telecast ‘Dastan-E-urdu,’ a new 13-part docu-drama series, bringing alive the fascinating history of this Indian language, breaking the myths by unveiling several interesting cross-cultural connections.
With the tagline ‘Kahani ek tehzeeb ki, Kahani ek Zubaan ki’ (the story of a culture, the story of a language) the series tend to trace the continuum of this language of hearts to the present day.

Shot around pan-India, the series would capture all the aspects and nuances that underscore Urdu’s poetic grandeur. Dastan-E-Urdu will delve into dramatisation of key personalities and attempt to reconstruct key periods in the history of the language.

Featuring a galaxy of experts including Prof Gopi Chand Narang, Javed Akhtar, Prof Shamim Hanfi, Shamsur Rehman Farukhi, Pt Gulzar Dehlvi, Prof Mushirul Hasan, Dr Karan Singh and Farooq Sheikh among several other stalwarts, the audience can experience a panoramic view of Urdu’s evolutionary journey.

Dastan-E-Urdu is a production of eminent Urdu activist Kamna Prasad and directorial venture of Aparna Srivastava Reddy.
