Disney India churns out sizeable resources!

If media honcho Ronnie Screwvala’s exit was not enough to keep Disney India in the news circuit, news has been doing rounds that Stars, which was launched with much fanfare in August 2011, was going to adopt the Bindass branding.

Sources close to the development have confirmed that not only is the channel adapting to a new branding, but the network is also churning out a lot of its employee base. While inconsequential rationalisation of resources is expected, sources say that there are a large number of people receiving pink slips.

The spokesperson from Disney India was unavailable for any comment.

Also, the impact of this churn-out process is varying from one channel to the other. Reports are also that this number is easily in double digits. Among these people are members from the production team – including show producers, reporters, cameramen and editors. Interestingly, UTV Stars was the only channel from the stable with a strong in-house production unit. Sources say that though the channel had a decent viewership, what may not have worked for it was the fitment in the larger scheme of Disney India.

Sources have informed that the new Bindass-branded channel is scheduled to be launched in the second half this year, reportedly with fresh packaging, content and a brand name.
