Within three years of its launch, Shine.com, the online job portal of the Hindustan Times group has become India's 2nd largest job portal with over one crore candidates database and over 150,000 jobs opening on site. The site has been able to attract huge traffic, over five lakhs unique users as per latest Comscore stats. The reason for Shine.com achieving success in a short period is due to the fact that it has always adopted innovative ways to stay ahead  of the curve .  Sandeep Bhushan, Vice President, HT Media Digital opines, “we are number 2 in traffic, next only to Naukri.com since  we offer value to candidates , recruiters and corporates. Shine.com  has the combined  edge of  technology and social media reach which are  key differentiations .”

Shine.com is built on a unique 2-way matching technology to deliver better relevance to both candidates and recruiters. In addition to the powerful portfolio of online recruitment solutions, Shine offers a multi-pronged strategy involving print, online and on-ground events. Giving more information on the 2-way matching technology, Bhushan says, “it is more than a match, we know our audience and hence provide the fit. The technology helps match a candidates CV with his job preference. To the recruiters, they get to see only candidates interested in the related/their industry jobs. So they get a shorter & relevant list.”

The portal has invested in technology  which is astute enough to provide a one-to-one match. Bhushan says “Shine works  on a multi-pronged strategy it offers a combinatioin of products involving print, online and on-ground events to the recruiters.” The portal sends out nearly 30 lakhs emails to candidates every day. The traffic from both candidates and recruiters is substantial  adds Bhushan.

Shine.com has products and users across categories. It has started offering unique services to corporate, which feels Bhushan will help the portal to differentiate from the rest. Giving an example he said, “we have digitized the SAIL job recruitment platform. So for someone who wants to apply for a job with SAIL, the only way to apply is through Shine.com. This process invloves applicatioin and admit card generatioin and goes right upto the interview stage . We are further building scale in this regards so as to offer digital solutions to more corporate.” Then there is another initiative that helps the corporate to identify passive candidates – those candidates who are not looking for a job and are out of the database.

Shine.com has been growing at 100 per cent year-on-year. It aims to grow at the same pace going forward. However there are challenges. Says Bhushan, “its a  constant endeavour to find points of differentiation in our solutions. The 2-way matching technology for instance is one such. The users should find value and we have to continuously keep creating value.
