Eye-Q and IMA Host Glaucoday for World Glaucoma Awareness Week

Eye-Q, a leading hospital eye care chain, joined hands with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to conduct Glaucoday as part of World Glaucoma Awareness Week 2024 on 10 March 2024. The event took place at the Community Centre, Sector 4, Gurugram, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the community. Dr. Bhalendar Singh, National Gold Medalist in Discus Throw and Brand Ambassador for Glaucoma Week, graced the occasion with his presence.

Ajay sharma, IMA president and CMD of EyeQ and Dr Inder Mohan rastogi, sectarary along with 100 doctors Conducted the walkthon which was sponsored by Eye-Q, Glaucoday featured a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about glaucoma, including a Glaucoma Walk, Glaucoma Talks, Glaucoma Jingle, Glaucoma Honors, and sumptuous Glauco Refreshments.

The Walkathon was flagged off by the esteemed guest Dr. Bhalendar Singh, The walkathon, which commenced from Community centre,sector,sector 4 road and continued till 3kms. Following the walkathon, informative Glaucoma Talks were conducted by esteemed experts in the field, including Dr. Mainik Bhattacharya, Dr. Manisha Rathi, Dr. Parul Sharma, and Dr. Sahebaan Sethi. Dr. Kapil Middha added a touch of creativity with a captivating Glaucoma Jingle

In appreciation of healthcare providers’ tireless dedication, Eye-Q and othereye hospitals offered free Glaucoma screenings for all IMA doctors and their families, redeemable at any of its four eye care centers in Gurugram.

Highlighting the severity of Glaucoma, Dr Ajay Sharma who is also the Founder and CMD of Eye-Q said, “Glaucoma, also known as “silent thief of sight” is a group of eye disorders that lead to progressive damage to the optic nerve. It’s sobering to note that Glaucoma ranks as the third leading cause of blindness globally, trailing only cataract and refractive error. In India alone, around 11.9 million individuals bear its weight, with 8.9 million already grappling with its effects. Those aged over 60, diabetics, and individuals with severe nearsightedness are especially vulnerable.”

He added, “Given the absence of early symptom signs, numerous individuals remain unaware of the condition until it progresses to an advanced stage, posing challenges for early detection and intervention. Meaningful educational campaigns, such as the one we are conducting can help spreading awareness about glaucoma risk factors, symptoms, and available treatments.”

“In line with our commitment to eye health,” Dr. Sharma concluded, “Eye-Q will offer free eye checks to 50,000 individuals and distribute 17,000 spectacles to the underprivileged in the months ahead.”

Dr. Inder Mohan Rastogi, General Secretary of IMA Gurgaon, expressed, “As guardians of public health, it is incumbent upon us to educate the community about the importance of regular eye screenings and the potential consequences of Glaucoma. By working together, we can make remarkable strides in safeguarding vision and enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by this condition.”

The Glaucoma Awareness Week will conclude with the Mega Finals of the Dr. Anil Hans Memorial IMA Haryana State Cricket League on 17th March at Terri Oval Ground on Gurgaon-Faridabad road. It will also feature female cricket enthusiast further IMA and Eye-Q extended a warm invitation to all sports-loving individuals and enthusiasts to join us for this exciting event, which combines sportsmanship with glaucoma awareness.
