Facebook clamps down on users who repeatedly share fake news

Facebook has announced that it will take strict action against users who repeatedly share fake news via their social media handles.

This includes reducing the distribution of all posts in the news feed from a user account if it frequently shares content that has been flagged as false by one of the company’s fact checking partners. People who are interacting with content that has been rated by fact checkers will see indicators on the nature of the content.

Earlier this year, Facebook reported that it took down 1.3 billion fake accounts between October and December 2020 ahead of inspection by U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce on how social media platforms are tackling misinformation.
