Lohia Auto unveils eco-friendly electric rickshaw 'Humrahi' at Auto Expo 2014

Tapping into the next wave of India’s public transport, Lohia Auto Industries , part of Lohia conglomerate , announced the launch of Humrahi, an Eco-Friendly Electric Rickshaw (e-rickshaw) for passengers and cargo at the Auto Expo 2014. Lohia Auto is the first and only Indian company to pioneer into manufacturing of Electric vehicles in the country and equipped with special EV-grade batteries, these vehicles are not only cost-effective but eco-friendly.

Apart from the good looks, which include a beautiful interior, choice of attractive colors, custom fittings and exceptional finish, these e-rickshaws can accommodate four passengers and are low-maintenance and easy to operate.

While these e-rickshaws will offer an affordable mode of transport to passengers, these will also provide a great investment opportunity to drivers. Priced between Rs 1 Lac to 1.5 Lac these rickshaws will cost much less than the traditional auto-rickshaws and battery-pulled three-wheelers.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of  Lohia Auto Mr. Ayush Lohia said: “Aakhir kab tak insaan insaan ko kheenchega- Reaching out to even novice drivers, our electric rickshaws are designed to make it easy for anyone to drive and even easier to maintain. It offers a great investment opportunity and an even better employment tool.”
“There's in-built area for advertisement that will help generate extra revenue. Also, our e-rickshaws are not only good for the environment but for your pocket too. It's a great revenue-generation model, as these vehicles cut down costs and bump up revenue. Company planning to invest 30 to 40 cr in next 2 year.” he added.

With their growing popularity and demand among passengers, China-made e-rickshaws have gained currency in the Indian market. Against that backdrop, home-grown Lohia's domestically-manufactured offering is expected to cut down cost and give both passengers and drivers a more reliable and cost-effective option.  Built in line with the Automotive Research Association of India's (ARAI's) design specifications, these rickshaw are said to deliver comfortable rides even on the toughest roads. Also,
these vehicles are likely to have a higher shelf life than their Chinese counterparts.

Lohia Auto, a leader in the e-vehicle technology segment, has brought to the market new and innovative product designs with special emphasis on quality, safety, ease of operation, simple maintenance and long service life. The e-rickshaw is another of the company's moves to streamline operations and remain committed to social and environmental responsibility.

Built for the city's roads, which vary from wide and smooth to crammed and dingy by lanes, this battery-operated rickshaw can withstand tough conditions and is designed to run long-hauls without exhausting the driver.

Besides the good income the drivers will be able to earn with the e-rickshaws, the owners could earn additional revenue through use of the advertising space that has been provided for in the vehicle.

The automotive industry plays a very significant role in the Indian economy and is estimated to be worth a billion dollars. With the arrival of e-rickshaw, the sector is going to get even bigger and will generate more revenues.
