Meta deploys unprecedented resources to safeguard 2024 elections

Meta has announced a significant commitment to securing the 2024 global elections. This commitment dwarfs efforts by other tech companies, with Meta deploying a dedicated team of 40,000 individuals and investing over $20 billion in technology specifically designed to safeguard online elections worldwide.

This substantial investment underscores Meta's dedication to ensuring the integrity of elections across its platforms. With a robust workforce and cutting-edge technology, the company aims to tackle emerging threats and foster trust in global electoral processes.

In a recent statement, Meta, the social media giant behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, outlined its specific plans for South Africa's upcoming elections. A dedicated "Elections Operations Center" will be activated to identify and mitigate potential threats in real-time. Additionally, Meta boasts the largest fact-checking network in the country, with partners verifying content accuracy in multiple languages.

Meta has also been working directly with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to ensure smooth election conduct. The company has streamlined the process for fact-checkers to identify and verify election-related content, making it easier to identify and address misinformation.

To further bolster transparency and participation, Meta will launch "Voter Information Unit" and "Election Day Reminder" features on Facebook and Instagram. These features will provide voters with crucial information and encourage them to exercise their right to vote.
