Meta celebrates women leaders inspiring India

On the occasion of the on-going International Women’s Month, Meta hosted an event in Mumbai to celebrate women from across the industry. With the theme of ‘Together We Flourish’ the event recognized the collective power of women and their ability to accelerate progress for each other and become a catalyst for change for the society at large.

Among other industry leaders, the event saw designer, actor and entrepreneur Masaba Gupta and actor, filmmaker, and producer Neena Gupta in a candid conversation with Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President (India) at Meta. During their conversation, Masaba and Neena Gupta threw light on how they have re-imagined the definition of their growth, opportunities and barriers to build thriving careers while authentically expressing themselves. The event also saw renowned Oscar winning producer Guneet Monga talk about the power of re-writing one’s story.

When asked how Masaba juggles multiple businesses, including her latest venture LoveChild, as well as an acting career, she said that she puts in the work and the discipline everyday, I have a fear of being mediocre, and I like being the master of my own destiny.”

Masaba also recognized the role of Instagram in her journey as a public figure as well as that of her businesses. She said social media should be fun and called out Mute, Post, and Stories as her favorite Instagram features.

Actor, filmmaker, and producer Neena Gupta said, “Don’t ever hesitate to ask for work,” referring to her Instagram post from 2017 in which she said that she was looking to do good work. During the discussion, she also threw light on how conversations around gender have evolved, and the importance of work-life balance. Praising her daughter’s determination, she also said that she admires how Masaba doesn’t give up easily.

Talking about how important it is for women to support each other, Guneet Monga, the Oscar-winning film producer for the short-film documentary, The Elephant Whisperers said, “In the rooms that we’re alone in, how we represent each other actually defines us somewhere. When a woman breaks open a door, and enters through it, she makes room for ten more.”

Said Sandhya Devanthan, Vice President (India), Meta, “At Meta, we believe in creating a world where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive and succeed regardless of their gender or any other characteristic. It was incredible to hear from so many women leaders at our event, including powerhouses like Masaba and Neena Gupta and Guneet Monga. We feel humbled that we get to play a role in the economic progress of women from all walks of life including creators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, developers and many others. We hope that the conversations we had during the event can help us all come together to spur growth for women everywhere in the times to come.”
